A full shot of the engine compartment. Dave and I changed the
wiring harness a little in here. One thing we did was to use a
piece of "All Thread" that is long enough to go from one side of the
compartment to the other. After installing the All Thread, we
attached a plastic wire loom then stuffed the wiring in to the loom.
We did this since the plastic wire ties and and the stock setup broke
8 years ago and the wire for the backup lights got sucked into the fan
squirrel cage.
At the same time, we added a ground wire to the ground lug on the
alternator that connects to the negative post of the battery. We
had to replace the alternator in 2003 because it was burned out.
The cause of failure was corrosion in and on the stand that holds the
alternator. This sort of failure is common. The yellow
connector (1) in the picture is the ground lug.
