A special thanks to KXAS NBC5 in Fort Worth, Texas for inspiring this and all of the Tire pages.

"Who make the best tire?"  Well that is a matter of opinion and preference. There are many tire manufactures that make very good tires.  Not always the highest priced tire is the best.  Over the years I have found that most new tires will perform the same regardless of the brand name.

With that said, some are better than others.

  1. Goodyear.  Used as original equipment on many new trucks and some cars.  An outstanding tire but can be a little pricey.

  2. General - Used as original equipment on many new trucks and some cars.  Also a very good tire.

  3. Michelin - used as original equipment on many new trucks and some cars. Very good performance.

  4. Uniroyal - very good tire.

  5. Bridgestone/Firestone - they have taken some hits over the years (especially,  the problem with Ford Explorers in very warm climates) other than that if you follow the load recommendations of the vehicle manufacturer, you should not have problems. (The true story on the Ford Firestone tire problem has YET to come out!)

  6. Kelly - A good tire, just do not ask Dave about them.

In the Air Cooled VW world, it is unnecessary to buy an expensive tire for a daily driver.  See Tire Speed ratings page for what speed rating your tires can be.
