Ah, you want to work on your Air Cooled VW yourself? I have heard the question many times, "What are the minimum number of tools to keep my Air Cooled VW running?" Well, that's depends on your level of mechanical - automotive experience and mechanical ability. There are those out there that have no business with a screwdriver in their hands, let alone a $500 torque wrench. Another question I have heard is "What brand and quality of tools should I buy?" Ah, that's a very good question. For the most part, it is unnecessary to buy a $15,000 set of Snap-on or Mac tools to work on a VW. Craftsman, SK-tools and Huskey are good economical alternatives, due to the life time replacement policy. And Yes, Buffalo and your No Name brands will also work fine. But don't expect the same performance from those tools. So, having said that, the choice is still yours. Below is a list of minimum tools to work on your Air Cooled VW. WARNING: Stanley tools sold at Wal-Mart are replaced as a SET and not on an individual part or tool replacement. Lesson: buy from a REPUTABLE dealer that follows the manufacturers rules! This list is only suggested and will not include everything needed, that is a separate list! We will be adding a Special tools list page soon! Minimum Tool listMajor Tool listSpecial Tools
